The Atlanta Silverbacks of the North American Soccer League (NASL) have added a second player from Mississippi Brilla to their 2011 roster. Willie Hunt, Mississippi's center-back for the past two seasons, signed a contract with Atlanta on Wednesday, March 30, joining his former Brilla teammate, Lucas Paulini.
"Willie has been a huge part of our organization for the past two years," said Brilla President Rusty Bryant. "Not only did he anchor our back line for the last two seasons, but he chose to stay and coach in our youth club during the Fall. We will miss Willie, but we are so excited for him."
Hunt, a South Carolina native and Francis Marion product, appeared in 30 games for Mississippi Brilla over the 2009-2010 seasons. Hunt contributed 3 goals and 1 assist, and was named to the 2010 All-Conference Team.
"Willie certainly deserved a chance on a professional team," said Associate Head Coach Todd Eason. "We couldn't have asked for anything more out of Willie the last two years."
Hunt said, "Carolina and blue will always be in my blood."
Hunt and Paulini begin the 2011 season with Atlanta on April 9. Follow their progress at www.atlantasilverbacks.com.
