Mississippi Streaks Into The Playoffs

Mississippi Brilla FC has ended the 2010 regular season on a high note, and now hopes to ride the momentum into the playoffs. Mississippi is scheduled to host the Southern Conference Championship this weekend, as they welcome the Laredo Heat, Houston Leones, and Baton Rouge Capitals to Harper Davis Stadium on the campus of Millsaps College in Jackson, MS. Laredo (9-5-2), the Mid South Division Champions, is scheduled to take on the Southeast Division Runner-Up, Baton Rouge (9-2-3), in the first match of the weekend at 5:00 pm on Friday, July 30. Mississippi Brilla (11-0-3), the Southeast Division Champions, will host Houston (7-5-4), the Mid South Division Runner-Up, at 7:30 pm on Friday, July 30. The two winners will meet for the Conference Championship on Sunday, August 1 at 7:00 pm.

Mississippi enters the playoffs with a number of impressive streaks from the regular season. First, Brilla is one of two undefeated teams in the Premier Development League. Their 11-0-3 record is second only to the Portland Timbers U23, who completed a perfect season with a 16-0-0 record in the Northwest Division. After beginning the season with a 3-0-3 record, Mississippi reeled off 8 straight victories to close out the season.

Even more impressive is a regular season unbeaten streak that dates back to last season. Mississippi’s last loss in the regular season came on May 25, 2009. The fourth year PDL franchise has a regular season record of 17-0-8 in their last 25 games. In addition, the team has lost only one regular season home match in 4 years, losing the final home contest of their 2008 season. The team has an impressive 15 match regular season unbeaten streak at home, including a perfect 7-0-0 record at home this season.

“Regular season streaks and records are good for the fans, but we know that only one team currently has a streak in the playoffs,” said Head Coach Dave Dixon. “Our goal is to end 2010 with a 4 game winning streak in the playoffs.”

Playoff tickets may be pre-purchased for $5 at the Mississippi Brilla FC office in Clinton, MS. Tickets at the gate are $8 for adults (ages 13 & up) and $5 for children (ages 7-12). Children 6 & under are free.
