July 22, 2010 – Jackson, MS
Mississippi Brilla FC entered tonight’s matchup with the Central Florida Kraze wanting to pin down their second consecutive Southeast Division regular season title. Mississippi is now one step closer after blowing out the Kraze 7-2.
Moses Aduny started the scoring for Brilla in the 3rd minute after Nathaniel Foster pressured the Central Florida goalkeeper into a mistake. Foster deflected the goalkeeper's pass into Aduny’s path, allowing him to knock a slow roller into the Kraze net. Brilla waited only nine more minutes to double their lead when Foster scored a goal of his own. Ahmad Ihmeidan’s cross found him wide open in the Central Florida area. Foster finished easily to put Brilla up 2-0 in the 12th minute.
The Kraze pulled a goal back when John Sosa’s well-placed shot beat Brilla ‘keeper, Andy Goellner, in the 19th minute. Josiah Miller’s assist found Sosa all alone 18 yards out.
Brilla reestablished the two-goal advantage in the 29th minute when Ahmad Ihmeidan earned his second assist on the night by providing Moses Aduny with a pass that he would finish for his second goal of the night. Aduny's two goal performance gives him a team-leading 10 goals on the season.
Brilla defender Willie Hunt knocked in a fourth for Mississippi when he connected with a Nick Rich free-kick in the 34th minute. Hunt’s header sailed over the Kraze ‘keeper to put Brilla up 4-1.
Central Florida narrowed the gap in the 37th minute when Sergei Radd finished off a move created by Fredrik Brustard.
The offenses cooled for the final eight minutes of the half with Brilla going into the break with a 4-2 lead.
Central Florida came back from intermission with a plan to push forward. They created several good chances, but were unable to finish any of them. Their pushing forward left them vulnerable to attack, and Mississippi capitalized in the 68th minute when Ahmad Ihmeidan collected a pass from substitute Phillip Buffington to score. Ihmeidan's goal was his 8th of the year.
Buffington scored for himself twenty minutes later when J.J. Greer set him up from six yards out. Greer earned his second assist of the night on Brilla’s seventh and final goal of the match in the 90th minute when he set up Anteneh Lemma who fired it home from 15 yards out.
The win keeps Brilla undefeated with a record of 10-0-3. They play their last regular season match Saturday, July 24 at 7:00 PM at Harper Davis field at Millsaps College against the Baton Rouge Capitals. In order to overtake Mississippi for the regular season division title, the Capitals would have to outscore Brilla by an eleven goal margin to overcome Mississippi’s advantage in goal differential. Both Mississippi and Baton Rouge have secured spots in next weekend's playoffs that begin on Friday, July 30 at Millsaps College in Jackson, MS.
