Having clinched the playoffs with a 2-1 victory in New Orleans over the weekend, Mississippi Brilla FC turns its attention to its final two regular season matches. On Thursday, July 22, Mississippi (9-0-3) will host the Central Florida Kraze (6-4-2) at 7:00 pm at Harper Davis Stadium on the campus of Millsaps College. Two days later, Mississippi wraps up the 2010 regular season at home against the Baton Rouge Capitals (9-1-3). Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
Mississippi and Central Florida tied 1-1 in their only other meeting in Orlando earlier in the season. A win on Thursday over the Kraze will all but guarantee a second straight regular season Southeast Division championship for Brilla.
“We are excited about the playoffs, but we still want to end the season strong,” said Head Coach Dave Dixon. “Baton Rouge has clinched the playoffs, and Central Florida was in the hunt until last weekend, so both of these teams will be good challenges for us as we head into the playoffs.”
Mississippi and Baton Rouge ended with a 1-1 draw in their first meeting in Baton Rouge, with Brilla earning a 4-3 victory in their next meeting in Mississippi on July 8. Depending on what happens Thursday night, Saturday’s showdown could determine the division championship.
Mississippi and Baton Rouge have both secured spots in the upcoming Premier Development League playoffs. Mississippi has earned the bid to host the Southern Conference Championship next weekend. The #1 seeds from the Southeast and Mid South Divisions will match up against the #2 seeds from the opposite divisions on Friday, July 29. The winners of those two matches will face off in the Conference Championship on Sunday, August 1. All three playoff matches will take place at Millsaps College in Jackson, MS. Game times are 5:00 pm and 7:30 pm on Friday, with host Mississippi playing in the second match. Sunday’s match will kickoff at 7:00 pm. Match-ups are TBD. Tickets will go on sale Monday, July 26.
