After winning matches against the Nashville Metros and the Baton Rouge Capitals this past weekend, Mississippi Brilla FC is preparing for a third meeting of the year against the New Orleans Jesters on Saturday, July 4.
The Jesters enter Saturday’s match sitting in third place in the Premier Development League’s Southeast Division, five points behind second place Mississippi, and seven points behind division leaders Bradenton.
Despite not losing a match yet this season, the Jesters have been plagued with ties. Of their twelve matches so far this season, the Jesters have ended eight of those matches in a deadlock with the opponent, including twice against Mississippi.
"We've now tied three games at home, " said New Orleans coach Kenny Farrell. "It really hurts, and now we've got to make up for that on the road."
Mississippi will hope to give the Jesters something they haven’t seen yet this season: A loss.
"We need to keep getting wins in order to have a chance to catch up with Bradenton," said Mississippi coach, Dave Dixon. "We’ll also need them to slip up and lose one game for us to have a chance. As much as we would like to finish on top of the division, we’re still in great shape for one of the three playoff spots in our division."
Saturday’s match will be at 7:00 at Arrow Field at Clinton High School, where Mississippi Brilla has moved their final three home matches to avoid the heat. Their normal home venue, Longabaugh Field at Mississippi College, doesn’t have lights, and an earlier start time proved to discourage fans to attend.
Fans attending this Saturday’s match will have an added treat: A view of the fireworks that will be displayed at Traceway Park.
"We know that families always look forward to seeing the fireworks show provided by the City of Clinton on the Fourth of July," said Mississippi Brilla General Manager Rusty Bryant. "Because of our proximity to Traceway Park, we’re going to be able to turn the lights off after the match ends and catch the show. Our fans won’t have to choose between the option of coming to our game or seeing the fireworks. They’ll have the opportunity for both on Saturday."
Saturday marks the return of the popular "Shirts Off Our Backs" Jersey Auction. Fans will have the opportunity to bid on their favorite player's special Fourth of July jersey to be worn during Saturday's match. Bids are currently being accepted online at the Mississippi Brilla FC website, and the auction will be continue at the stadium through half-time of Saturday's match.
Fans attending Saturday’s match will also receive a back sack provided by M&F Bank, while supplies last.
