Mississippi Brilla FC continues to strengthen its 2009 roster, and recently announced commitments from three Francis Marion standouts. Defender Willie Hunt, midfielder Kyle Clinton, and forward Juan Rivas will be joining the third year PDL franchise out of Clinton, MS. Francis Marion competes in the NCAA Division II Peach Belt Conference.
“I had the privilege of watching Willie, Kyle, and Juan throughout the college season,” said Mississippi Brilla FC Associate Head Coach Todd Eason. “They are three of the top Division II players in the country.”
Hunt, a senior defender from Greer, SC, was recently named to the 2008 NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region Second Team. He started all 22 matches, scored 4 goals, and recorded 2 assists. More importantly, he anchored a defense that posted 8 shutouts and a 1.35 goals against average.
Clinton is a junior midfielder from Safety Harbor, FL that was honored as a Third Team All-Southeast Region selection. He led Francis Marion with 10 goals, and also added 5 assists.
Joining Clinton as a Third Team All-Southeast Region selection was Rivas. The sophomore forward from Clearwater, FL tallied 9 goals and 5 assists. Rivas led the team in goals, assists, and points as a freshman in 2007.
The trio led Francis Marion to a 14-5-3 record, including the Peach Belt Conference regular-season and tournament titles. They advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
