Mississippi Brilla Falls To Austin Aztex
After a hard fought battle with division leading Austin Aztex, Mississippi Brilla suffered a familiar road result. The 1-0 loss to the Aztex on Sunday night leaves Mississippi (5-5-3) in a must-win situation for the remainder of the season if they hope to extend their playing time into the playoffs. Austin (10-2-1), on the other hand, clinched the Mid-South Division championship with their win over Mississippi Brilla.

Brilla, responsible for one of the Aztex's two losses on the season, battled hard defensively for the entire ninety minutes, but could not overcome Jamie Watson's goal in the 30th minute. The Austin offense had Mississippi on its heels for most of the night, and finally capitalized as Austin da Luz centered a pass to an oncoming Watson for the lone goal of the match. Brilla weathered the storm for the remainder of the game, but could not put anything together on the offensive front.

"Austin is a very good team and is certainly worthy of representing our division as champions," said Head Coach Steve DeCou. "They are running a first class program, and I give them credit for a great year."

The tie to Houston and the loss to Austin leaves Mississippi in 4th place in the Mid-South Divison. The 18 total points is one point behind third place Laredo and three points behind second place El Paso. Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and Dallas all remain within striking distance in the tough Mid-South Division. The road to the playoffs for Mississippi begins with a must-win home contest against second place El Paso on Saturday, July 12.
