Mississippi Brilla FC defender Keith Armstrong was named to the Premier Development League Team of the Week after his strong performance in a 2-0 shutout of the Austin Aztex on May 31.
Armstrong, from Tupelo, MS, is in his second year with the club and an integral part of the team.
“Keith had to miss our last road trip to Houston and Dallas due to a family obligation, and he was sorely missed,” said Brilla FC Director of Operations, Scott Taylor. “We can’t afford to not have him on the field for us. He completely changes the game with his speed. Attackers can’t get past him, and he’s scary to opposing defenders when he goes forward.”
When Armstrong learned of the honor he was surprised. “I thought the whole team played really well. I certainly didn’t expect to be singled out because I didn’t think I played better than anyone else” In his usual understated way, Keith summed it up by saying, “I was just playing soccer.”
Armstrong is the second Brilla FC player to earn the honor this year after defender Jacob Lawrence was named to the Team of the Week after Brilla’s 0-0 draw with defending national champion, Laredo Heat.
Mississippi returns to Laredo on Friday, June 6 for a rematch with the Heat. The match begins at 8:15 pm.
