Mississippi Brilla Downs Hinds Community College in Pre-Season Tune-Up
After leading the Mid-South Division with 30 goals scored in 2007, Mississippi Brilla FC picked up where it left off by netting six goals in its first pre-season tune up on April 16.. Coming off a 15-4-1 record and their fourth straight Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges and Region XXIII championships, Hinds Community College never found a rhythm against the Premier Development League side.
Mississippi Brilla controlled the pace of the match from the opening whistle, and notched two quick goals in the first half by Paul Babba and Drew Ziegler.
“We came out possessing the ball pretty well tonight,” said Head Coach Steve DeCou. “We really started controlling the game when Ousmane arrived. It was a nice win, but we still have lots to work on.”
Ousmane Coulibaly, the veteran from Burkina Faso, proved to be the field general from his central midfielder position. He also finished a driving cross by Justin Roberts to add to the lead in the second half.
Rounding out the scoring were Matt Welch, James Gledhill, and a second strike by Ziegler.
Dwyane Demmin, 2007 All-League selection, anchored the back line throughout the evening, allowing very few chances for the opposition. David Austin earned the shutout in the goal.
Mississippi Brilla FC continues its pre-season training with a scrimmage against the U18 Mississippi Fire team on Sunday, April 20. The match will take place at 2:00 PM on the campus of Mississippi College in Clinton.
